What is Vector Art?
In digital art there are two layer formats: raster and vector. Raster formats are based in pixels and vector is based in paths and points.

When you resize a raster image, you are expanding the pixels. Your program has to try to estimate what the colours would be for the additional pixels created. Due to this, the image loses it's clarity and creates a pixel effect.

When you resize a vector image, you are increasing the distance between the points. Due to this, the image doesn't lose it's clarity and doesn't pixellate.

The key element of vector is that it's infinitely scalable without any quality loss and it's why we love it!

What is Project Educate?
Project Educate is a Community Relations ran series of events which focus individually on each of the galleries of deviantART. It is exists to help give further exposure to the galleries concerned, help educate those in new mediums/genres and host events surrounding those galleries for those who are already part of the galleries.

Vector Week will be running 16th to 22nd of January 2011 with a series of events, articles and contests for those wanting to know more about vector and those who are already part of our scalable community.

Events Preview
During the week, several events will be taking place in dAmn, the deviantART Messaging Network (for the chatrooms if you will). In order to keep those informed of which events they'd like to make time for, I've decided to post a schedule of the big events happening:

Sunday 16th January: A Trivia Event hosted by #vector-artists. Test your vector knowledge and win some fabulous devwear prizes! (time to be announced)

Monday 17th January: A featured chat with Ryan Putman aka ~RypeArts. Ryan is the owner of big tutorial blog VecTips and a regular writer over at VectorTuts+ and is a freelance web and graphic designer, who's primary medium is vector. This featured chat will be especially useful those who want to know more about writing tutorials, using vector in webdesign and graphic design as well as finding out what it's like to run such an influencial blog. This will take place at 9pm GMT/2pm MST in the #CommunityRelations chatroom.

Wednesday 19th January: A featured chat with Cristiano Siqueira aka `CrisVector. Cris is an internationally respected vector artist who works as a freelance illustrator. Creating amazing vector pieces for web and print. He is also a senior member of the art collective #depthCORE. This featured chat will be especially useful for those who want to know about what inspires him, what projects he gets involved in, being a freelance illustrator and much more! This will take place at 7pm GMT in the #CommunityRelations chatroom.

Thursday 20th January: A Vector Orgy hosted by #vexelove. Similar to Photoshop Tennis, a vector orgy is a social and learning gathering of deviants wishing to contribute to a live collaboration. You have 30 mins to add to the vector collaboration and then you pass the file on! This is a fun event and regardless of your ability and skill set, everyone is welcome to take part. All you need is Adobe Illustrator! This will be an all day event!

Further events to be announced, including the announcement of the winners of the third annual Golden Pen Award winners, informative articles, a big vector contest and much more! Be sure to follow the journals of `ChewedKandi to keep up to date on what's happening!

I don't have more to say about Eve - the new chapter of Depthcore than Justin (aka +ekud ) already didn't say in this news article . So, I just want to recommend all of you to take a time and look at the ultra inspiring works of EVE and refill your creativity.

Unfortunately I don't have any work on this chapter. The year started very busy to me... I sold my current apartment and now I need to move to the new one still this month. Lots of things to do.....The time is flying and it started to get very short...Also, there's the usual client works...I need to keep doing them to meet all the deadlines..... I miss doing experimental art, I think I'll get my life back in march..

I hope all of you had a great holiday season, now let's get back to the work

The reason for this journal is to discuss something about the DA Groups. I think the Groups is a great feature, it's a good way to meet people with similar interests, promote events and such, but I'm having bad issues with the ammount of deviations submited by the members. Why don't add options to list the deviations separated by group and watchers in the message centre?

I am the kind of "deviant" that just watches friends and artists that I really admire and follow the work. I'm now a member of 4 groups and, suddenly, I have almost 300 deviations every day to check in my message centre. Of course, I simply can not check each of them and even give them a fav, at least.

Is someone here having the same problem or just me? Any suggestions how to fix it?

So, today I turn 30... With a bit of mixed feelings about this, time is flying and I'm getting older too much fast....well I cannot escape from this fact, so I must enjoy more my life.

2009 was not a great year in the professional field, specially in the first half of the year, due the world economic crisis, but anyways , I could get some important achievements and now some new opportunities are coming around. In latest months I could finally sell my apartment and now I'm waiting to move to another place. Some changes coming around and this is good

I hope in 2010 to dedicate myself to the art and illustration, not just for client stuff. I hope to be back here, posting new works again and I hope to contribute more to Depthcore, the beloved art group I'm member.

Thank you all for the support, even with my lack of activity.

For those interested, I have been interviewd by the Mackenzie University here in Brazil, they did a video where I explain a bit of my techinque and something about my life as professional Illustrator. Então, hoje faço 30.... com um pouco de sentimentos misturados sobre isso, o tempo voa e eu estou ficando velho muito rapido!... Bem, eu não posso escapar desse fato, então eu preciso aproveitar mais minha vida.

2009 não foi um ano sensacional na parte profissional, especialmente na primeira metade do ano devido à crise econômica mundial, mas de qualquer forma, eu pude ter algumas conquistas importantes e agora algumas boas oportunidades estão aparecendo. Nos últimos meses eu pude finalmente vender meu apartamento e agora estou me preparando para mudar para um outro lugar. Algumas mudanças estão pra vir e isso é bom

Eu espero em 2010 dedicar-me para a arte e ilustração e não somente aos trabalhos pra clientes. Eu espero voltar aqui e postar novos trabalhos de novo e eu espero contribuir mais para o amado Depthcore, o grupo de arte que faço parte.

Obrigado a todos pelo apoio, mesmo com minha falta de atividade.

This week the Taschen Books released the Illustration Now!3 and, by my surprise, my work is featured there.



Check out the pages, my work is in the pages 354 and 355. I noticed some mates from Depthcore in the book too: Nik Ainley, Matei Apostolescu, My Dead Pony (`mydeadpony) , Pawel Norbert... And some brazilian talents such: Kako, Daniel Bueno, Glauco Diógenes, Carlo Giovani, Tiago Hoisel among others.

I can't wait to get my copy of this book . As soon I get it, I'll take some pictures.


Another thing: My work will be in the exhibition of Ilustra Brasil! 6, the most important brazilian illustration event. It happens in Sao Paulo, from September 14th to October 13th, with lots of lectures and workshops about illustration. Check out the Ilustra Brasil! 6 website the even schedule.
